Corporate Mission
Quintessence Biosciences is a private, pre-clinical stage biopharmaceutical company that is developing novel, proprietary anti-cancer compounds based on our patented EVade? Ribonuclease technology.
Our EVade? Ribonucleases are distinct from other anti-cancer drugs in that they are derived from naturally occurring human proteins and target RNA rather than DNA or specific proteins. The first product we have moved from our research laboratories into animal testing, QBI-139, has demonstrated excellent anti-tumor activity in animal studies compared with widely marketed anti-cancer drugs.
Remarkably, QBI-139 shows none of toxic side-effects currently associated with effective cancer treatments, even at high dose levels. QBI -139 has also demonstrated effectiveness against a broad range of tumors, an attribute not seen in the newer targeted cancer drugs.
Through our product development efforts, the Company is on target to file an Investigational New Drug (IND) application for QBI-139 before the end of March 2008 and expects to have a Phase I human clinical trial completed in the third quarter of 2009.
Quintessence Biosciences? management team is headed by Ralph Kauten, chief executive officer, with more than 25 years of highly successful experience in leading biotechnology and drug discovery companies. Dr. Laura E. Strong, who holds a PhD in organic chemistry, serves as president and chief operating office. Founders Ronald T. Raines, PhD. and Laura L. Kiessling, PhD., nationally prominent scientists in the area of ribonuclease research, serve on the company?s Scientific Advisory Board and remain active in assisting with various aspects of research surrounding the Evade? technology.
